La Clemenza di Tito Opera North
Dir. John Fulljames
'But the supreme merit of John Fulljames's new production for Opera North, and of the dramatic performances given by his cast of six excellent singers, is to bring out the tense , heart -rending personal drama at the heart of the work.'....'Fulljames's staging and the committed performances of the three principles sustain the intensity of the drama.' The Independent, Anthony Arblaster
'For Opera North, Holten's RO deputy, John Fulljames, has staged a smart, slick updating of Mozart's royalist propaganda piece, La Clemenza di Tito, in eye-catching, minimalist sets and catwalk costumes by Conor Murphy, and wonderful kaleidoscopic, trompe-l'oeil video projections by Finn Ross.' '...dazzlingly designed by Conor Murphy..' Hugh Canning, Opera
'There are a few masterstrokes. Firstly, the design, in which the nine apartments where the action takes place in luminous frames are projected onto the backdrop, while simultaneously on stage one, two or three of these can be seen live in close up. Equally brilliant is the idea to represent the nine people who died by singers, and the nine who survived by actors.' Frits van der Waa, Volkskrant

"Designer Conor Murphy's response might look unpromisingly bare: a white space pocked with pores, but under the hypnotic glow of...lights it transforms from display-window unreality to post apocalyptic wasteland."

Rough Magic, The Project Theatre Dublin
Dir. Tom Creed

'Conor Murphy's striking design - a wide, shallow space, somewhere between a corridor and a display window - evinces an aesthetic sense of limbo. On an iridescent path of glass pebbles, each footstep yields a frosty crunch, while raindrops streak down a glass wall and wisps of curling smoke beckon from the right.' Peter Crawley, The Irish Times
'Conor Murphy's beautiful physical production stresses the play's otherworldly qualities.' Karen Fricker, The Guardian

The Birthday Party Bristol Old Vic

'Reade's production benefits enormously from Conor Murphy's design, in which reality and artifice sit happily side by side in Meg's claustrophobic boarding-house living room, which comes complete with a natty breakfast hatch and a just-glimpsed patch of blue sky.' Lyn Gardner, The Guardian, 28 Sept 2006
